WEST DARLING ARTS

Wendy Martin

Born in Whyalla, South Australia in 1949. Her family moved to Broken Hill when she was 2 years old.

Wendy remembers fondly the many trips into the outback, and camping holidays.  This early introduction to the countryside and all its beauty heightened her awareness and appreciation of her surroundings and eventually led to her taking up painting.

In 1978, Wendy enrolled in classes at the Broken Hill College of TAFE, studying art and design under the tutorship of artist Joyce Condon.  Her choice of medium at this stage was oil, sometime later she discovered the versatility of pastels and now works mainly in this medium in a traditional style.

In 1998, with her partner – artist Ian Lewis – they opened the BUSH ‘N’ BEYOND GALLERY in Broken Hill where they currently create, exhibit, and sell their art.

Wendy has exhibited throughout Australia since 1980, winning several awards – including Best Painting, Best Pastel, and People’s Choice Awards. She was also selected as a finalist in the 2008 Country Energy Landscape Art Prize and won the Country Energy Employees Choice Award for that year.

Her work is represented in numerous local and international collections and has featured in several publications.
