Howard Steer - Feature Artist

This week the artist spotlight is on Broken Hill artist, Howard Steer, who is also known as 'The Flying Doctor Artist'.
Howard is a prolific artist and has produced a huge body of work from when he commenced painting in 1970. He has a great eye for the business of art, producing works with a broad appeal and a 'story'. Howard has had a long exhibition history from 1985, including many solo shows. Howard has worked on a mural at the Family Hotel in Tibooburra in 1994 and on the Arid Zones Artists Mural at the Broken Hill Airport in 1997.
In Howard's words:
Howard William Steer born in 1947 is a self-taught Broken Hill artist. He developed the foundation for what he calls 'Story Art', where each painting tells its own story, be that of a backyard wedding or a Sunday afternoon pub crawl. A prime example is the 'Flying Doctor' series featuring a winged, black-suited saviour complete with top hat and bag. He has a wicked sense of humour and no subject is safe from his satirical brush. Howard's style is classified as naive realism.
His work is in many private collections throughout Australia and overseas. He has exhibited in most Australian capital cities and regional areas and his work is extremely sought after.'
