Young Designer Launches West Darling Arts Exhibition Window

West Darling Arts is proud to present the first exhibition in our new Exhibition Window program, featuring the work of 10-year-old budding fashion designer, Anna Sophia.

On display throughout July, Anna’s exhibition showcases a selection of her handmade fashion pieces, celebrating her bold approach to colour, pattern and self-expression. Already designing her own patterns, fabrics and sewn garments, Anna brings a joyful and imaginative eye to fashion, inspired by the landscapes, creativity and colour of the Far West.

“I love that there are no limits to fashion,” Anna says. “Each piece is different and unique.”

Anna describes her personal style as “colourful, fun and loud”, with a love for mixing colours and patterns in unexpected ways. Her work is influenced by the world around her, from the bright blue skies and rich landscapes of the region to the abundance of colourful murals across the community.

“The vibrancy of colour in the community inspires my work,” Anna says.

Among the pieces on display is a gown titled The Rainbow over the Garden. Anna describes the work as a celebration of colour in its softer forms.

“This piece describes that colour does not need to be overtly loud, but can represent peace and serenity with the addition of the handstitched fabric flowers,” she says.

Anna also draws inspiration from local artist Amanda Johnson, admiring her use of colour, local influence, shapes and geometry.

For Anna, fashion is more than clothing. It is a way to express identity, creativity and joy — something she believes should be available to everyone, no matter where they live.

“Fashion brings happiness and I use fashion to express myself,” she says. “Everyone should have this opportunity.”

And if she could design an outfit for anyone in the world? Anna’s answer is immediate: Taylor Swift.

Anna’s exhibition will be on display in the West Darling Arts Exhibition Window throughout July.

The West Darling Arts Exhibition Window is a free exhibition opportunity presented by West Darling Arts to support and promote emerging and established artists from the Far West region and beyond. The program provides artists with a public platform to showcase their work, increase visibility, and connect with audiences and potential buyers.

Community members are encouraged to visit the window, enjoy Anna’s work, and celebrate the creativity of a young artist making fashion in the Far West.
